Re-assesing Things

I have taken a little time off from my blog. I'm not ready to return yet because there is a lot of stuff going on. My computer was failing - freezing mostly. It became rather upsetting. I now have a brand new one with lots of capacity. I very excited about this. I' trying to decide which graphic/art software to purchase: Photshop or Corel. Is one better than another? I'm going to try the Corel demo to see how it works.
Wish me luck. Any advice?

The type of art software you purchase depends upon your style, and your budget.

I don't know if you were referring to Corel Painter or Corel Draw. The latter is only compatible with a PC. I use Painter IX and X as well as Photoshop.

Having both is a must for me, since I love to work in Painter but need to convert everything I paint into CMYK for the printers and most publishers. Of course they could do that themselves, but I found that I need control over my color. Also there are some neat features in Photoshop that compliment Painter beautifully.

If you want the state of the art photo/graphic and art at your fingertips and also the industry darling, you might choose photoshop.

If you want to paint as if you were holding a real brush or pen, then Painter combined with a Wacom tablet and pen or a cintiq is a dream.

I use Painter and a Wacom intuos 4 tablet and pen. Someday I will spring for the cintiq, but for now this works really well for me.

Try the demos or trial versions of each and see what feels best for you. Also go to YOUTUBE for sessions showing artists using Photoshop, Painter and Cintiq along with any other related videos.

Congratulations on your new computer ! *:)
